Fourth of July Snack: Red, White & Blue Waffles
So, I promised my kids weโd have a yummy 4th of July snack. 4th of July waffles it is! We each decorated our own red, white and blue waffles to celebrate 4th of July.
Thatโs right…waffles for dinner. (If you arenโt on the breakfast-for-dinner train, we highly recommend it).
You can also find other ways to celebrate with 4th of July traditions & things to do for 4th of July throughout KC…fireworks shows, parades, festivals, events, & more for your family to enjoy.
What You Need for Your 4th of July Snack:
- Berries (blue & red berries are needed)
- Bananas
- Whipped cream
- Waffles
We had sliced strawberries for red, blueberries for blue and sliced bananas for white. You could also use raspberries, blackberries, and, if youโre really fun, whipped cream.
How to Make Red, White & Blue Waffles:
- Make your own waffles or use frozen waffles to make your life easier
- Spread lines of red berries & bananas (or use whip cream if you’re feeling extra fun…)
- Add the blueberries to the top left corner
- Add dots of whip cream for stars
- EAT!
Pro Tip: Throw any leftover fruit into a blender with some yogurt, spinach, and OJ to make smoothies for dessert!
I knew my kids would enjoy it but what I didnโt realize was it would be a great activity for more than a few reasons.
Creative: This is a great chance for our kids to be creative. We had flags, fireworks, and Star Wars (kind of patriotic?) waffles. File under โThings Iโll Do Next Timeโ: Come up with little awards for each person, like โMost Patriotic Waffle,โ โSilliest Waffleโ and โBest Masterpiece Waffle.โ
Motor Skills: Scooping fruit on a spoon and balancing it to get it to your plate took some concentration. Our 3-year-old went from shaky to a pro before we finished. Very few blueberries were lost in action.
Fun: The kids were happy and excited about doing something different. They shared, helped each other out, laughed, and actually stayed at the dinner table for a record amount of time.
Healthy: My favorite part. The kids piled on the fruit and had so much fun eating their masterpieces – they forgot to even ask for syrup.
Yep. Red, white, and blue waffles.
