Elite Comics to Honor Chadwick Boseman
Elite Comics Annual Superhero Santas Children’s Mercy Toy Drive fundraiser kicked off this summer in July.
On Wednesday, October 28, the comic book store, known for its community outreach, is hosting a special edition Spawn #311 comic book cover event honoring Chadwick Boseman from 9am – 8pm at Elite Comics, 11842 Quivira Road, Overland Park, KS.
Now in its 5th year, the toy drive fundraiser spearheaded by Elite Comics owner William Binderup and his Partners-in-Kind, are once again trying to do their part to brighten the holidays for kids at Children’s Mercy Hospital and their families this holiday season. With a goal of raising $28,000 (that’s $1000 for every year Elite Comics has been in business), this mighty team of superhero do-gooders are within reach and just $10,000 shy of reaching their goal.
As is tradition, a group of Superhero Santas will add a bit of holiday flair to their costumes and go shopping in December to fill the shelves at Children’s Mercy Hospital Snowflake store.
“Chadwick Boseman played so many important historic figures in his short career, ranging from Thurgood Marshall to Jackie Robinson to James Brown, but arguably his greatest role was as legendary Marvel Comics Hero, King T’Challa, the Black Panther,” said Elite Comic’s owner, William Binderup. “He spent many hours visiting kids in the hospital who were fighting cancer. It was only after his passing we learned that he, himself, was fighting cancer the entire time.”
In celebration of Boseman’s life, comic book superstar Todd McFarlane has created a Special Edition Spawn #311, featuring Chadwick as the title character on the cover. As their way of honoring Chadwick, Elite Comics is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of Spawn #311 to the fundraiser. Said Binderup, “We think it’s a charity he (Boseman) would love. Rest In Power, King. Wakanda Forever!”
Donations can be made in-person to Elite Comics, 11842 Quivira Road, Overland Park, KS or via Venmo @EliteToyDrive.
