15 and Mahomies Park: Inclusive Park in Kansas City
Recently, our Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has expanded the accessibility for kids throughout the metro area by creating its newest inclusive park – The 15 and Mahomies Park!
In the world of 15 and Mahomies, football and community go hand in hand! If you’re a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, then, of course, you love Patrick Mahomes and his philanthropy, always working to serve our KC community. In 2019, he and his foundation, 15 and Mahomies, teamed up with the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department to create a one-of-a-kind inclusive park in the heart of Kansas City. This park is specifically designed to be accessible to children of all abilities, including those with physical, sensory, and developmental disabilities. So put on your play shoes, grab your sunscreen, and get ready to explore the 15 and Mahomies Inclusive Park!
The 15 and Mahomies Park is conveniently located at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park off Woodland Ave and Swope Pkwy in Kansas City, MO. This newly renovated park was part of a $1 million plan proposed by Patrick Mahomesโ foundation, 15, and the Mahomies.
15 and Mahomies Park Features:
The great thing about this park is that there is something for everyone and all abilities. The equipment can be climbed over, swung on, and spun around on, even for those that are wheelchair-bound. Kids can enjoy:
- Swings
- Slides
- Ropes
- Net Crawls
- & so Much Fun
This new inclusive playground is specially designed to be accessible any time of the year with an all-weather style surface. It also has features that are great for sensory sensitivity. There are even inclusive swings so every child can have fun at the park and swing!
Another great feature that surrounds this new inclusive playground is the many quotes from leader and activist Martin Luther King Jr. to encourage and inspire the park’s visitors. It’s inspiring that such a great resource has been created in KC for our kids!
We are so excited about this new inclusive park in KC. The next time you and the family want to head outdoors for some playtime, make sure you stop by KCโs newest park. They even have shelters at the park that make for great spots to have celebrations.
The park was organized by the 15 and Mahomies Foundation. You can find even more pictures of the park on their Facebook page, but we recommend just driving over to check out the fun for yourself!
We hope your family is able to get out and visit the park soon!
Inclusive playgrounds are crucial for children with disabilities and limitations as they offer a safe and welcoming environment for all kids to play together. They are designed to accommodate various physical, cognitive, and sensory needs, enabling children with diverse abilities to engage in play activities alongside their peers. These parks and playgrounds help children with disabilities develop their social, emotional, and physical skills, which are essential for their overall development. By playing together, children learn to appreciate and celebrate each other’s differences, promoting empathy, and reducing stigma towards those with disabilities. It’s essential to invest in creating more inclusive playgrounds to ensure that children with disabilities and limitations can participate fully in play activities and experience a sense of belonging.
We’re grateful to have Patrick Mahomes and his organization providing wonderful new destinations for kids and families in Kansas City.
