3 Apps to Explore the Outdoors
My boys love their devices.ย So, finding ways for them to enjoy technology while also getting them outdoors can be a challenge.
Enrolling them in sports is great, but it’s fun to have experiences the entire family can enjoy. Now you can explore the outdoors with kids using the best apps. (According to us)
Here are my three favorite apps that will help you and your family get you out and about:
ย
1. SkyView App
This has my go-to constellation & stargazing app for years. When helping my boys see the constellations in the night sky, this is the app we use.
Skyview turns your device into a a virtual telescope allowing you to identify planets, nebula, moon phases and more. This is a great use of technology to bring the outdoors to life. Your kids will love gazing at the stars at night!ย
ย
2. Geocaching
Even as an adult, the idea of hunting for treasure is exciting. Well…this great outdoors app allows you to join the world’s largest treasure hunt which started in 2000.
With the app you can search for hidden containers within your community or hide your own message or trinket for others to find. There is a compass built into the app, which guides you to nearby treasures that other users have hidden.ย
Once you find a package, you can use the container to create your own treasure to hide!
ย
3. PokemonGo
The hype about this app has died down, but you can’t deny the fact that this a great game to get out of the house.ย
…you have to leave your home to play it!
When you explore your surroundings, you can discover new Pokemon, search for helpful items and take on gym leaders. It is a great crossover between gaming and the outdoors, so if you have children who love video games this could be a fun app for them.ย
ย
Be sure to consider this before giving your children access to apps…
Before you download any app, be sure it is from a safe, trusted source, and that it is the correct version.
Sometimes, if a game is popular, fake versions can be released to the public that designed to steal your data. Always use the official app store. Apple devices use the Apple App Store, Android devices use Google Play Store.
Check the app rating and reviews. Reading the reviews will let you know if an app is legitimate or not.
Keep in mind that technology is a fantastic tool when used properly. We hope you enjoy these outdoor with your family.ย
