Things to do Labor Day Weekend in Kansas City
KC Renaissance Festival Opening Weekend
Opening Weekend: August 31st – September 2nd
You do not want to miss out on the magic of the Kansas City Renaissance Festival! This Labor Day Weekend there will be a costume contest, candy corn relay, hula hoop contest, balloon toss, rootbeer chug, and a Polish sausage eating contest. There will also be tons of shops, activities, and shows throughout the weekend.
Gate admission is $25.95 for adults, $23.25 for seniors, and $16.95 for kids (5-12 years.) 4 and under are free. Buy online and save. Hyvee, Walgreens, Costco and Menards offer discounted tickets. There is also free parking.
SantaCaliGon Days Festival
August 30th- September 2nd
Downtown Independence, MO
This year’s annual SantaGaliGon Days Festival will take place the entire Labor Day weekend and includes craft and artisan vendors, food, live music, and activities for the whole family. Admission to the event is free. Expect to pay for food (at trucks and booths) as well as carnival games and rides.
Come enjoy the festival all weekend, it is a great thing to do with the kids!
KC Irish Fest
August 30th – September 1st
Crown Center Plaza in Kansas City
This is an Irish, Labor Day Weekend tradition in Kansas City. Join the fun with music and entertainment to celebrate Irish Celtic culture. There will be live bands, workshops, comedy shows, a giant kids’ area with things to do, & so much more family fun. Some activities charge a fee so check out their list of activities here.
DeSoto Days Festival
August 29th- 31st
DeSoto, Kansas
DeSoto Days is an annual series of Labor Day activities that take place at Miller Memorial Park. Carnival is Cash Only with wristband options available. Not only is this a great opportunity to enjoy some family time together but they also have vendors, a carnival, a parade, and live music. This event takes place Thursday-Saturday. Admission is FREE for everyone…we love free events for families!
Kansas City Royals v. The Astros
Watch on Bally Sports Kansas City
Watch our favorite boys in blue play Houston all Labor Day Weekend. This long game series takes place Friday evening, Saturday evening, and Sunday evening. Host a watch party and fire up the grill.
Check out the Sunflowers at Grinter Farms
There is free admission to the Sunflower Farm! You can take fun family pictures and pick sunflowers to take home. There are 40 acres filled with rows and rows of gorgeous sunflowers; great photo opportunities!
Only pay $1 per sunflower bloom you pick! You can also visit the Sunflower General for baked goodies and souvenirs. You can also find other local sunflower fields and farms around town.
