Netflix to the rescue! They’re “Netflix Party” feature will allow you to watch your favorite Netflix shows & movies with friends & family that aren’t at your house.
Netflix Party Feature
You can watch movies with your neighbors down the street or family half way around the world!
Netflix Party allows you to connect with others to sync your streaming movies/shows. While this isn’t a new thing, it’s more valuable now…
When you create a Netflix Party, it is like being in a virtual movie theater with your friends!
The host chooses a movie, then invites their friends and family to join at a specific time (set by the host). At that time, the movie will begin playing for all included accounts at the same time.
Chat While Watching
During the movie, you will be in a dedicated space that includes a group chat feature. This chat bar will allow everyone to comment to each other and chat about what’s going on in the movie – while it’s playing!
For even more fun together, upload screenshots, GIFs & emojis to react to the movie that’s running.
You can also customize your Netflix Party with emojis, a fun icon & nickname.
What’s better than chatting with your friends during a movie? Virtually chatting with them!
How to Use?
You will need to have a Netflix account (obviously), but you will also have to have a Google Chrome enabled device. You will also need to download the Chrome extension.
You can find out how to get the extension online.
Once you have the extension, it’s easy to set up a party from in the app.
You can find simple step-by-step instructions below:
- Get Netflix (if you don’t already have)
- Install Netflix Party, by adding the extension to Chrome by clicking “add to Chrome” button
- Go to Netflix website
- Open a video in Netflix
- Create the party by clicking the “NP” icon next to address bar
- Share the URL with your friends to invite them to the party
- Join the party by clicking the URL (will redirect to Netflix)
- Click the “NP” icon next to address bar to finish
Now you don’t have to leave your home to hang out with friends and family…YAY for sanity!
Other Options for Syncing Video
There are also other platforms that will allow you to sync video & music so you can watch or listen together.
Watch2Gether allows you to sync YouTube, Soundcloud, Webcams, Playlists, Vimeo & Dailymotion. You can easily create a room on the site by clicking the yellow button.
This is a great alternative if you or someone you want to hang out with doesn’t have Netflix.
