Kansas City’s Downtown Staycation Guide: 2018 Edition

There’s nothing quite like playing tourist in your own backyard. With so many of us living in the suburbs, planning a Staycation in KC can provide a fun adventure for your family. As we head into Spring Break (want to know when yours is? Find out HERE!) later this month, we want to encourage you to spend a few days exploring some of the incredible opportunities available to your family in the heart of the metro area: Downtown Kansas City. While you’re enjoying Spring break fun, consider some of these incredible activities during your time off. Take a look…

Kansas City’s Staycation Guide: 2018 Edition

Spring break is right around the corner here in the metro area and, while many of us would love to get away for a few days, the time off from school seems shorter now than in year’s past. That few days off from school provides the ideal opportunity to take a (very) short “road trip” to downtown Kansas City to explore the sights and scenes that KC proper has to offer.

Kick Off the New Year at SeaLife & Legoland (+ Free Admission to Legoland Kansas City)

Hello, Kansas City! It’s hard to believe that we’re in the last couple of weeks of December, and that soon, we’ll kick off 2017. The new year brings us some great fun at SeaLife Kansas City and Legoland Discovery Center down at Crown Center. Our Mom Squad Ambassador, Darcy gives us the low down of what to expect in January (along with a promo code for 1 child free with 1 paid adult ticket). Check it out!

Kick Off the New Year at SeaLife Kansas City
& Legoland Discovery Center

Winter is here and keeping the kiddos busy can be tough. Luckily, Kansas City has many options for keeping your family entertained. One of the most popular and unique options is SEA LIFE Kansas City and LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

SEA LIFE has an exciting new addition, Moko, a Māori wrasse. These fish grow to be over 6 feet long and up to 400 pounds! Moko is only about 2 and a half feet long right now, but will continue to grow here in Kansas City. You can find Moko in the big sting ray tank. These fish are beautiful with intricate blue markings all over. An endangered species, Moko is here to raise awareness for the importance of caring for the ocean and coral reefs. I had the pleasure of interviewing an aquarist live on iFamilyKC’s Facebook page last week. We learned all sorts of fun things about Māori wrasses, like other names they go by, how Moko got his name, how their gender changes as they grow and that Moko loves to eat shrimp! SEA LIFE also has some new baby seahorses near Moko’s display that were fun to see.

LEGOLAND is another fun option. With areas to run around, stations for building with Legos and various rides to go on, you can easily fill an entire day with family fun. My kids love building their own Lego pizzas whenever we go. The 4D theater is a fun spot to enjoy a quick show and rest tired bodies before they find their next activity. If you buy your LEGOLAND tickets online, right now you can get 1 child in free with 1 paid adult! Just enter the promo code 1409. This offer is valid until January 31st, 2017, however the visit can be scheduled for a later date. This is an awesome deal and I hope you can take advantage of it at least once! This would also make a great stocking stuffer- what kid wouldn’t love a trip to LEGOLAND Discovery Center?

It’s “Wizard of Oz Week” at Legoland Discovery Center!

Good Morning and Happy Monday, Everyone! We are so excited to share a very special event with each of you that will be taking place ALL week long here in Kansas City! Our friends over at Legoland Discovery Center are hosting “The Wizard of Oz” Week in honor of the 75th anniversary of the incredible film (one of my all time favorite movies).

Throughout the week, in conjunction with “The Wizard of Oz- The Musical” (coming to Starlight Theatre), Legoland will have “Wizard of Oz” LEGO models inside MiniLand, an Oz themed costume contest on Saturday 6/14, and special activities sure to please guests of all ages including a Dorothy Lego model build inside the Master Builder Academy. The fun this week doesn’t end when you walk outside the doors at Crown Center.

Families can also join the fun at Starlight Theatre’s Yellow Brick Bash during “The Wizard of Oz” The Musical, which runs from June 10th until the 15th. Stop by the Legoland Discovery Center Kansas City booth at Starlight’s pre-show event where kids can build their favorite LEGO model. Starlight’s Yellow Brick Bash is open from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. every night of the performance, including a VIP appearance from Legoland Discovery Center Kansas City’s Master Model Builder, Jeremiah Boehr on Friday evening, June 13th.

Dorothy said it best: “There’s no place like home” and, in honor of that, Legoland is partnering with Warner Bros. Consumer Products in a campaign to support Habitat for Humanity. Guests who enjoy the special events and activities this week are encouraged to donate to the mission. For more information on how you can get involved follow this link:  www.TheWizardofOz.com/Habitat

We’re so excited to be able to share the details of these great events with you and hope to see each of you over at Legoland during the costume party! I’ll be sporting my red sparkly shoes skipping down the yellow brick road! See you there!

Legoland Noon Year’s Eve Celebration!

What a FUN way for the whole family to celebrate bringing in 2014!  The New Year’s Eve celebration starts early at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City with a party that lets kids ring in 2014 without staying up until midnight. The Noon Year’s Eve celebration begins at noon on December 31, where kids can count down to 2014 with a LEGO balloon drop.

Guests will meet in the LEGO Café to begin the countdown festivities at 11:45 a.m. Kids will be provided with hats and horns to help ring in the New Year while enjoying sparkling juice. Kids will receive a New Year’s gift and will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for a chance to win LEGO sets. All items are available while supplies last.

In addition, all Annual Pass holders are invited to bring a friend for $10 plus tax on December 31.

“Noon Year’s Eve will be a fun party for kids to ring in 2014,” says Jeremiah Boehr, Master Model Builder of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City.

It is encouraged that guests purchase their tickets online in advance at http://www.legolanddiscoverycenter.com/kansascity/.Guests who purchase their tickets in advance will receive a discount and priority entry into the attraction.
