iFamilyKC Kids Club Event Recap: Weston Red Barn Farm
Last week we got a chance to check out Weston Red Barn Farm at the iFamilyKC Kids Club event! My family and I had fantastic time! Beautiful scenery, picturesque views, and family fun- what more could you ask for this fall? This was our first time at Red Barn Farm and definitely won’t be our last! Check out my recap of our event and don’t forget to get on our eNews list to get in on upcoming super awesome Kids Club events! We love the opportunity to check out really neat places in KC throughout the year (some very minimal cost and some FREE events!)
We spent a few hours on the farm enjoying smores by the campfire, pumpkin painting, hayrides and the animal barn. My kids loved the space to run free and we all enjoyed the hayride through the woods! The hayride was definitely my favorite thing and brings back memories of my own childhood at our church fall event. The kids said their favorite thing was picking apples off the apple tree and eating them!
Weston Red Barn Farm offers FREE admission after 2:00pm Monday through Friday and on Saturdays and Sundays. You pay only for the activities you wish to do. It is open spring through fall. As well as being open to the public, they do offer school tours Monday through Friday. It is also a perfect place for a wedding and the open air barn can be used for a reception.
Whether you want to take a hayride to pick out the perfect pumpkin, shop in the country store, visit the animals in the barnyard or navigate your way through the corn maze, the farm has something for everyone this fall! Check them out on Facebook and on their farm website! The staff were super nice and I can’t wait to take my family back again soon!
Happy Fall Y’all! It is officially Fall so that means it is time to hit up the good old pumpkin patch! Luckily as a Mom Squad ambassador, I get to do all the dirty work for you and check out this season’s must see places! I was so excited to have the opportunity to preview this year’s activities at the KC Pumpkin Patch!
The KC Pumpkin Patch is a”Kid- friendly country- style entertainment just a few miles from Kansas City” and it is so much fun! It really is a perfect family outing for this Fall season. With tons of stuff to do, wide open spaces for the kiddos to run around and amazing food (especially the apple donuts), everyone is sure to have a great time! Plus, there is plenty of picnic areas to sit and enjoy your lunch or quick treats.
The KC Pumpkin Patch is open every day this season and closes for the season on October 31st. The KC Pumpkin Patch has not 1, not 2 but 3 slides perfect for everyone. They also have a zip line, hay rides, tricycle tracks, a Kiddie corn maze, grain truck ski-ball, a jumping pillow and tons more to do! Plus your little critters can feed little critters too! Of course, we can’t forget they have TONS OF PUMPKINS! We were there for 2 hours and we still didn’t get to do everything lol. Visiting the KC Pumpkin Patch really is an all-day adventure!

Aaarrrrgh! September is here and we have some fun ideas coming for you to celebrate! The first in our series of fun September activities is ‘Fun Ways to Celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day’ from Ruth, with our iFamily Mom & Dad Squad! Read on mates!
Fun ways to celebrate International Talk like a Pirate day!
International Talk like a Pirate day is a fun made up holiday that rolls around once per year. It seems each year more people and companies are joining in the fun with neat promotions and activities that get families together. As a lover of all things pirate related, I always take advantage so I can do something fun with the kids! Here are some fun ways that you can celebrate at home.
Pirate dress up
If you already have a costume great, but if you don’t you can use your imagination to create a pirate type outfit. Easy items include capri pants, a loose white top or shirt with frills, a wide belt, boots and a bandana. If you want to add accessories then include anything with skulls or skeletons, hoop jewelry, plastic swords, a stuffed parrot and eye patch.
Pirate meal time
Pirates aren’t worried about etiquette or fancy foods so finger foods work best. The messier the better! Ditch the silverware for a night and have a little fun. Roast some chicken legs and corn, large hunks of bread and your beverage of choice. Set the table with mismatch dishware, dim the lights or use candles, play some pirate worthy music and let the feast begin!
Check out fun pirate promotions
One day per year restaurants around the country celebrate pirate day with fun promotions.
Arby’s (aka Aaarrrby’s) offers pirate day food specials. To cash in on this year’s promotion start by texting AHOY to 27297.
Krispie Kreme offers an option this year to receive free donuts. Yes I said free! If you come in on Talk like a Pirate day and talk like a pirate when you order then you will receive one free donut. However, if you come in dressed as a pirate, then you can earn a free original glazed dozen! If you follow them on facebook then you can keep track of the event at https://www.facebook.com/events/607830256057224/.
Long John Silver’s hasn’t published their promotion yet, but they are a fun place to go if you want a pirate themed meal. You might even be able to score one of those cool paper pirate hats and don’t forget their new menu item….deep fried twinkies!
Pirate worthy activities
If you and your sea worthy crew want something to do then here are a few activities for you!
Good Morning, Kansas City! Worlds of Fun is a staple in the Kansas City, and has been offering family fun for decades. Our Mom Squad Ambassador, Erin, took the kiddos to check it out and shares some fun upcoming fall events–including FREE Pre-K Season Pass. Don’t miss out!
Experience Fall Fun at Worlds of Fun!
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my dad would load us up in the truck and we’d spend the day at Worlds of Fun! If you’re from KC, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that Worlds of Fun is an amusement park with tons of cool rides and family fun! It keeps expanding every year to become even bigger and better! Somehow after all this time, the smells, sights and sounds of WOF have remained pretty much the same: funnel cakes, fresh blacktop, laughing and screaming voices! I’ve been going to WOF since I was about 5 and now I am so excited to create new memories with my own kids!
There are some really exciting things happening at WOF in the coming year! I wanted to share a few things that you may not know about!
First of all, WOF is offering a special FREE Pre-K season pass for the entire 2017 season for children 3-5 years old. This saves big $$$ because the regular season passes cost anywhere from $100-150! You can register online starting now. You will need to show the child’s birth certificate when you come to the park to process the pass. If you process the pass between October 1st and October 30th, 2016, your child will receive one FREE visit in 2016! Find out more and register for the pass at https://www.worldsoffun.com/what-s-new/pre-k-pass
In my opinion season passes are definitely the way to go in 2017! For just $99, or 9 payments of $11 each with the EZ pay plan, the Gold season pass has so many benefits! Unlimited visits to Worlds and Oceans of Fun, FREE parking, FREE admission to Dinosaurs Alive exhibit, special dollar days with discounted food/games/merchandise throughout the season, bring a friend discount days, and early park access days. With the Gold season pass, you also will receive a free visit in 2016 so you can enjoy Halloween Haunt or The Great Pumpkin Fest!
Starting September 17th, 2016, you can get your scare on at Halloween Haunt or during the day kiddos under 14 can enjoy tons of fun activities at The Great Pumpkin Fest. https://www.worldsoffun.com/the-great-pumpkin-fest/things-to-do
Two new rides are opening in 2017 as well. Mustang Runner and Falcon’s Flight. They look awesome and I can’t wait to try them out! Check them out at https://www.worldsoffun.com/what-s-new/new-in-2017
Another reason I was personally sold on buying season passes, especially this year, is because for the first time in WOF history, starting in 2017, the park will be open until December! They are starting something called Winterfest with all kinds of winter activities: light displays, ice skating, holiday characters, and live entertainment. We’ll have to stay tuned to see what rides are available to ride in the colder temps!
